Kherson Oblast in Ukraine is one of the most heavily contaminated regions with explosive remnants of war. The State Emergency Service reports an acceleration in the pace of demining agricultural lands. However, many fields remain uncleared—or even unexamined. The film Bread from the Minefield portrays the demining situation in Kherson from two perspectives: the farmers who risk their lives daily working on often uncleared land, and the deminers who liberate Kherson’s soil from the deadly seeds of war.
“Vgoru” was founded in October 2002 by the charitable organization “Mercy and Health Foundation” to support the development of civil society in Kherson Oblast.
From 2002 to 2017, the printed version of the newspaper was published weekly as an independent socio-political weekly titled Vgoru. Today, the publication operates entirely online at https://vgoru.org/ as the Media Platform “Vgoru”.
“Vgoru” is a media outlet that covers life in Kherson, conducts investigations, and helps people defend their rights.
Journalists at “Vgoru” seek out and highlight stories of activists who, in their own ways, are transforming Kherson for the better. We document war crimes committed by Russian invaders and share the stories of those affected. We report on developments in both the de-occupied and occupied territories of Kherson Oblast.
“Vgoru” is independent of political, religious, and commercial structures.
