In his rush to flee Ukraine, former President Viktor Yanukovych tried to destroy evidence of his corrupt activities as quickly as possible. Many documents were dumped into the river or shredded. Civic activists who were the first to enter the Mezhyhirya residence began retrieving the papers from the water and collecting the fragments that had passed through shredders. Journalist Denys Bihus gathered the “Office Hundred” — volunteers who recover and organize these documents. Today, the Office Hundred works on web-based projects that allow the public to trace the property of Ukrainian officials and their families — real estate, vehicles, and land.
